The tree believed to have inspired Dr. Seuss as he worked on the popular children's book The Lorax has fallen.
The Monterey Cypress that stood at Ellen Browning Scripps Park in La Jolla, California bore a likeness to the Truffula Trees of the children’s book:
A website that promotes the community said: “Geisel could actually see that exact tree from his mountaintop home.”
Officials are unsure why the tree fell as it had been in good health, although they do note that it did have a termite problem.
According to HuffPost, city officials have said the community the may plant a replacement in the future.
