Rumble Tensions grew between police and protesters at Hong Kong’s Legislative Council buildings on Wednesday, June 12, after protests against a proposed extradition law were labeled “a riot” by the Hong Kong chief of police. Police began using pepper spray and tear gas in an effort to disperse the crowds. Video here shows umbrellas being dropped down to protesters to be used as protection against the spray and gas. Wednesday’s events followed huge protests on the weekend against the bill, which would allow for the transfer of criminal suspects to mainland China. The Sunday rally ended with clashes between protesters and police. According to the Hong Kong Free Press, the meeting to discuss the proposed legislation at government buildings was postponed.
