According to Business Insider, the Federal Trade Commission will oversee antitrust investigations into Facebook and Amazon.
The Justice Department will manage similar investigations into Apple and Google's parent company Alphabet.
The FTC recently received the right to investigate company practices at social media firms to see how they affect digital competition.
But the FTC has not formally launched an antitrust investigation into Facebook, instead the probe is focused on business practices.
