Reuters reports that President Donald Trump announced he will send about 1,500 American troops to the Middle East. The troops are being deployed as a protective measure, amid heightened tensions with Iran. U.S. officials said the troops will assist in missile defense and surveillance and the deployment will include a number of engineers. The decision to deploy more troops was made late Thursday night during a meeting between the president and top Pentagon leaders.
