According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, tornadoes killed at least three people in southwest Missouri and slammed into the state capital just before midnight, while rescue workers in Jefferson City searching into the morning for the injured. The St. Louis office of the National Weather Service confirmed that reported twisters struck near Joplin, Missouri late on Wednesday, and local media including the Joplin Globe reported at least three dead. The NWS also reported that a “massive” twister hit the southeastern part of Jefferson City, damaging buildings, taking down trees and power lines and throwing around parked cars. Reuters reports that at least three other people have been killed since Monday in Oklahoma and Iowa in a string of at least 30 tornadoes, heavy rains and floods that carved a path from Texas to Illinois.
