Reuters reports Taiwan has become the first place in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. Thousands of demonstrators were seen outside parliament cheering and waving rainbow flags. Lawmakers of the majority Democratic Progressive Party backed the bill, which passed 66 to 27. The bill will provide same-sex couples similar legal protections for marriage as heterosexuals and it goes into effect on May 24 after President Tsai Ing-wen signs it into law.
