Over 1,200 tornadoes strike American soil each year. That's four times as many twisters as the rest of the world combined. According to Business Insider, the US has more tornadoes than anywhere else in the world because the Great Plains are home to Tornado Alley, and winds from the Gulf of Mexico and the Rocky Mountains come together to create the perfect conditions for making twisters right in the middle of America.
