Japan has started testing the world’s fastest bullet train, capable of reaching speeds as much as 400 kilometers per hour (249 miles per hour). Called the ALFA-X, the train is scheduled to go into service with Japanese rail company JR East in 2030, Bloomberg reported. Japan’s bullet trains made their debut in the same year as the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and have since become a symbol of the country’s focus on efficiency and reliability.
