Director Joe Carnahan was going to work on “Bad Boys 3” in September 2017 but ended up leaving the project. According to Comicbook.com, he left because he clashed creatively with Will Smith. Carnahan said that Smith is “a great guy” but felt he “Wasn’t servicing the story” he was excited to tell. He said the ending of the original script he wrote for the film was “one of the best endings” he ever wrote.
