New research from Brazil shows statins used to fight cholesterol may not be working as well as it should. According to UPI the study from the University of Sao Paolo showed that after two years of treatment with statins, about half of 165,000 patients in primary care still didn't hit healthy cholesterol levels. However, there was some good news for statin users: every 1 millimole per liter decrease in LDL, or bad cholesterol, was linked to a 6 percent drop in stroke risk.
