Mexico’s central bank created a new mobile payments system that seeks to promote financial inclusion. The system allows customers to make and receive payments through their smartphones free of charge. According to Reuters, various companies in Mexico like Uber Technologies Inc. have shown interest. Banco de Mexico Governor Alejandro Diaz de Leon said the bank wants to help educate companies. Uber in Mexico declined to comment on whether they are thinking of using the new system.
