Youth protesters in New York City marched through Central Park, staged a “die-in” at the United Nations and sang at Columbus Circle on Friday, March 15, as they demanded policies to address climate change. This footage, streamed live by Greenpeace, shows young demonstrators in Central Park and at Columbus Circle. Previously, the protesters gathered at New York’s City Hall and the United Nations headquarters as part of a worldwide day of action. The “school strike” movement for climate change action has spread since August 2018, when Greta Thunberg, a Swedish 16-year-old, skipped school and began protesting outside the Swedish parliament. On March 15, protests began in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, before spreading to Asia, Europe, and North America later in the day. Credit: Greenpeace via Storyful
