Students and climate activists in the Ugandan town of Jinja marched towards the Municipal Council Headquarters on March 15, as similar protests took place worldwide, to deliver a petition calling for climate change. In the capital, Kampala, activists said their main demonstration was blocked by officials. The “school strike” movement for climate change action has spread since August 2018, when Greta Thunberg, a Swedish 16-year-old, skipped school and began protesting outside the Swedish parliament. On March 15, protests began in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, before spreading to Asia, Africa, and Europe later in the day. Credit: Jenny Farmer via Storyful
