Protests were held in cities across Algeria, including Oran, Algiers, and Tizi Ouzou, on March 15 over President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s decision to cancel a planned April election, and extend his fourth term. Prior to Bouteflika’s announcement, protests had already been taking place, against the possibility of him seeking a fifth term. Bouteflika has been in office since 1999 and recently turned 82.
