According to Business Insider, 73 years ago the American troops became the first military force to cross the Rhine since Napoleon.
In 1944, as the Allied advance toward Germany encountered heavy resistance and supply problems, renewed interest in finding a way to cross the Siegfried line into Germany took on a new priority.
