U.S. National security adviser John Bolton said the U.S. may give Venezuela more sanctions. He said they would do this to increase pressure on President Nicolas Maduro’s government to give up power. Bolton said they want “to deny his regime the money that they need to stay in power.” According to Reuters, the U.S. views opposition leader Juan Guaido as Venezuela’s real leader. Currently, they have sanctions on the country’s oil sector, asset freezes and a travel ban on top government officials.
