According to Mother Nature Network, the Bramble Cay melomys, was declared extinct this week by researchers in Australia.
This rodent is reportedly the first mammal species wiped out by human-induced climate change, having lost most of its habitat to rising seas.
The Bramble Cay melomys was a distinct species of rodents from Oceania with an island of its own, and the only mammal native to the Great Barrier Reef.
