Police in Peterlee, Durham, were helped in their pursuit of a suspect on February 14 by a bystander and his trusty “bag of cans”. Ben McGill posted a video on Facebook showing the moment he swung his bag of cans at a man fleeing police on a bike, causing him to fall and allowing officers to catch him. “Didn’t expect me to be there with my bag of cans hahaha,” he wrote. Police in Durham said they were called shortly after 10 am to a disturbance in Peterlee town center. Security staff at a store said a man was making threats and appeared to have “an object tucked into the waistband of his trousers.” The man was pursued on a bicycle, police said, and was tasered and detained at around 10.35 am. Adam Hall, 24, from Peterlee, was charged with theft from a shop, receiving stolen goods and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior, police said. He was due to appear before Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on February 15. Credit: Ben McGill via Storyful
