According to reports, the suspect entered the U.S. under a resettlement program and was granted asylum earlier this year, yet ended up allegedly opening fire on uniformed Americans.

I’m deeply troubled by what this means — not just for the victims, but for the millions of Americans who expect safety, accountability, and honest immigration policies. Here’s what I break down in my reaction:

Support for the Armed Forces & National Guard: The two soldiers were doing their duty — added security in DC — and instead of thanks, they got ambushed. One of them tragically lost her life.

Criticism of the suspect: This wasn’t just a crime of passion or a random act — it appears to be a targeted attack by someone with a suspicious background.

Questioning immigration and asylum policies: How did someone who entered under a resettlement program end up here — and end up with access to weapons and ability to commit terrorism? That raises serious questions about vetting and oversight.

The danger of soft immigration enforcement: When we accept people from distant countries with vastly different cultures, languages, and experiences — without adequate integration and vetting — tragedies like this become far more likely.

A call for accountability: This isn’t about hating immigrants generally — it’s about demanding that anyone seeking refuge must meet high standards of character, assimilation, and loyalty to American laws and values.
