Trump Launches “Genesis Mission,” a National Project Inspired by the Manhattan Project and the Apollo Program

Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced that President Donald Trump has signed the Genesis Mission, an initiative he described as “historic” and comparable to major American undertakings such as the Manhattan Project and the Apollo program. Wright noted that, just like those missions that changed the course of history, Genesis aims to mobilize the nation to fully harness the potential of artificial intelligence.

The new mission will integrate the work of 40,000 scientists and engineers from the national laboratories, supported by some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. Its objective: to boost innovation, reduce rising energy costs, strengthen the economy, and improve citizens’ quality of life and life expectancy.

Wright emphasized that what was announced today “is not incremental, but transformative.” While AI has so far been applied mainly to language, internet searches, and business efficiency, Genesis seeks to use that same power to accelerate scientific progress, engineering, and the solving of complex problems, including the deterioration of the nation’s electrical grid and aging energy system.

The mission will bring together industry, national laboratories, and vast datasets in a closed-loop system designed to speed up technological and scientific breakthroughs. According to Wright, it represents a full national effort to modernize the U.S. energy system and improve the lives of millions of Americans.
