Prosecutors Upgrade Charges to First-Degree Murder in Case That Has Shocked Washington

Prosecutor Jeanine Pirro announced that the initial assault charges against the suspect in the recent Washington attack have been elevated to first-degree murder, noting that the investigation continues “24/7, non-stop.” According to Pirro, authorities expect to file additional charges in the coming days as more information becomes available.

Pirro emphasized that a central focus of the investigation is determining how the alleged attacker —whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed— entered the country and how he was able to position himself “to ambush and shoot an innocent young woman who was fulfilling her duty to the people of this country.”

The prosecutor described the case as a national priority and said investigators are committed to uncovering “what truly happened” and ensuring the perpetrator faces the full weight of the law.
