Redfield Jr. is an American virologist and physician who served as the 18th Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry from March 2018 to January 2021. A graduate of Georgetown University, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps (1977 – 1996) and later co-founded the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, focusing on HIV research and clinical care.
