They Nullified Their Islam — But You Still Call Them Muslim

Many today claim Islam with their tongues while their actions destroy it. They legislate what Allah did not permit, ally with His enemies, oppose the people of Tawheed, mock the Sunnah, and reject the commands of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — yet the Ummah still calls them “Muslim.”

This reminder exposes the reality of nawāqid al-Islām — the nullifiers of Islam — and how the Salaf understood the difference between a sinner and one whose disobedience to the Messenger ﷺ expels him from the religion altogether.

Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى warns us with absolute clarity:

“Let those beware who oppose his command (the command of the Messenger ﷺ),
lest a fitnah (trial) afflict them, or a painful punishment befall them.”
(Surat An-Nūr, 24:63)

Ibn Kathīr, Imām Mālik, Imām Ahmad, and other Imams explained:
Fitnah here means falling into disbelief without realizing it.

This is the danger of disobeying the Messenger ﷺ — not just sin, but fitnah, deviation, and loss of Islam itself. Yet today, rulers and leaders nullify every principle of Islam, wage war on the Sunnah, and oppose the laws of Allah — and still the Ummah labels them “Muslim.”

This reminder calls us back to clarity, courage, and the pure creed of Tawheed — to name truth as truth, and falsehood as falsehood, just as the Salaf did.

Islam is not a label. Islam is submission.
