Retro Game Players 04 - Dragon Warrior

This was one of those games our dads were playing back when we were kids. This is Dragon Warrior. It was released in Japan as Dragon Quest (I know that because I already did a video on that game.)

It was also one the first RPG games on a home console and it was very popular when it came out. You play as a hero who is on a quest to rescue a princess from a dragon and find the Erdrick weapon and Armor to defeat the evil Dragonlord.

You explore caves and the world to fight random enemies to gain experience points and gold to become stronger and buy more powerful weapons and armor. As you gain levels your stats go up a little and you learn magic spells that can help you or defeat your enemies more easily.

The one thing you really need the most for this game is patience because you have to do a lot of level grinding to get very far in the game. It took me 30 minutes just to get enough gold to buy the copper sword and get a good piece of armor just to get further in the game.

You also can go into towns to talk to people so you can get information on where to go or how to do this and that. You can go into shops to buy equipment and items to help you along the way. Then after that it's back out there to beat up more monsters and try to level up so you can tackle the more dangerous places and face more powerful monsters.

Once you get everything in the game and find your way to the Dragonlord and defeat him it feels good that after all that time you put into this game is worth it. Except for me because my nes at that time was acting funny and had a tummy ache and it kept resetting itself. At least I saved before that happened. So, I'll have to continue playing this game at a later time.
