FEDERAL AGENTS SHOOT VIOLENT ANTI-ICE RADICAL IN California During Illegal Immigrant Detainment

Federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) opened fire early Thursday in Ontario, California during a traffic stop after an uninvolved driver intervened. Officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had pulled over a vehicle in the 2800 block of South Vineyard Avenue around 6:30 a.m. when a separate Lexus pulled in front and then reversed toward the agents. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the man, who was not the original target of the stop, ignored orders to leave, reversed directly at the officers and forced an ICE agent to fire in self-defense. The driver fled the scene after being shot and abandoning his vehicle; he later faced federal charges for assaulting or impeding officers. The incident underscores what DHS describes as a sharp rise in attacks on immigration-enforcement officials, including vehicle assaults and threats, framing this as part of a broader law-and-order challenge.
