The Poughkeepsie Tapes Review

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! In honor of such a spooky holiday, I've decided to review a particularly gruesome, nasty horror film: The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Written by the Dowdle brothers (John Erick and Drew) together but directed and edited by John Erick Dowdle (As Above So Below, Devil, Quarantine) this movie is part mockumentary part found footage. It revolves around a particular serial killer in the Poughkeepsie area and his many evils, including the tapes documenting his evils that he left behind for law enforcement to find.

Honestly, massive trigger warnings abound for this movie and review. In fact, I don't even go over half the stuff in the film, I just give the general idea of what you'll be seeing should you decide to watch and it is NOT a pretty picture. It is, however, quite accurate to how serial killers really operate and how FBI/law enforcement in general understands them. This 2007 found footage mockumentary is NOT an easy watch, but it is fascinating and truly disturbing in a Megan is Missing kind of way (but this is probably much more substantial than that film, as far as I can tell).
