Today’s important question is: Which Prophet Invented Weapons of War?

Among the noble prophets sent by Allah Almighty to guide humanity, each was blessed with a special wisdom and unique skill that benefited mankind. Some were gifted in agriculture, others in writing or craftsmanship. Among them, Prophet Dawood (peace be upon him), known in English as Prophet David, was blessed with extraordinary knowledge in metallurgy and warfare. By the command of Allah, he was the first prophet to invent weapons of war, such as armor made of iron rings, swords, and shields, which revolutionized the art of battle and protection. His skill was not learned from men but was a divine gift bestowed upon him by Allah, as mentioned in the Holy Quran.

The Holy Quran highlights the unique blessings of Prophet Dawood in Surah Al-Anbiya Verse 80, verse number 80, where Allah says, “And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your own violence. So will you then be grateful?”. This verse clearly shows that the art of making armor was a divine revelation and that Prophet Dawood was the first to design protective war gear for humanity. Before his time, people used large, heavy iron plates as shields, which were difficult to wear and move in. Prophet Dawood, through the inspiration of Allah, shaped iron into small, linked rings, creating flexible armor that provided better protection and comfort.

Allah mentions another miracle in Surah Saba, verse number 10 and 11: “And We certainly gave David favor from Us. We said, O mountains, repeat Our praises with him, and the birds as well. And We made iron soft for him, saying, Make full coats of mail and measure precisely the links, and do righteous deeds. Indeed, I am All-Seeing of what you do.”. This shows that iron became soft in his hands, allowing him to mold it easily into useful shapes. It was through this divine power that he invented new forms of weaponry and armor. His inventions not only advanced warfare technology but also protected believers from harm during battles fought in defense of truth and justice.

Prophet Dawood (peace be upon him) was both a prophet and a king. He ruled the land of Bani Israel with justice and wisdom. His strength in battle was matched by his piety and humility before Allah. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned the great virtue of Prophet Dawood’s worship and work. In Sahih Bukhari, Hadith number 1131, the Prophet said, “The most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of Dawood, and the most beloved fasting to Allah is the fasting of Dawood. He used to sleep half the night, pray for one third of it, and sleep again for one sixth of it, and he used to fast every alternate day.” This shows that although Prophet Dawood was a man of strength and war, his heart was devoted to the remembrance of Allah.

He earned his livelihood through his own hard work. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith number 2072, “The best food a man eats is that which he earns from the work of his own hands, and Prophet Dawood used to eat from the earnings of his own labor.” His labor was the crafting of iron into armor, which he sold to earn his living. This reflects that even while being a king and prophet, he chose to work with his hands, showing humility and gratitude to Allah.

The invention of weapons by Prophet Dawood was not for spreading harm or injustice but for establishing peace and protecting the righteous. His weapons were used in the path of Allah, defending the truth and securing justice for the oppressed. Through his example, Islam teaches that strength should always be used in the service of righteousness, not for tyranny. As Allah reminds us in Surah Al-Hajj Verse 39, verse number 39, “Permission to fight has been given to those who are being wronged, and indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory.”.

Prophet Dawood’s inventions transformed human civilization. His mastery over iron led to the development of new tools, instruments, and weapons that shaped the course of history. But more than his skill, it was his obedience to Allah and his sense of justice that made him a true leader. He balanced power with piety and strength with compassion.

In conclusion, Prophet Dawood (peace be upon him) was the first prophet to invent weapons of war and the art of making armor. By Allah’s command, he softened iron and crafted it into protective gear for mankind. His innovations were not meant for destruction but for the defense of truth and justice. His story teaches us that all knowledge and power come from Allah, and that true strength lies not only in the weapons we hold but in the faith and righteousness that guide their use. May Allah make us among those who use our skills and strength in the service of good, as Prophet Dawood did, and may we always remember that every blessing of knowledge is a trust from our Creator.
