In this brief excerpt from the course, Jesus and Myth, Dr. Barber discusses how Jesus achieves His unique 'Triumph' motif, where He demonstrates that He is indeed God Almighty in the flesh by rising back to life from death.

Israel’s leaders had, at the same time, engaged in their Enemy Punished motif, having Jesus' body securely and (they hoped) permanently entombed beneath the earth, and driving Jesus' followers into hiding out of fear.

But three women believers had the courage to go to the tomb on the Third Day, to anoint Jesus' body:

"And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: He is risen; He is not here" (Mark 16:5–6a)

Are you engaged in myth’s Enemy Punished motif, being intimidated into not boldly doing Jesus' will, or thus intimidating others? Or are you faithfully trusting in Jesus' Triumph of life over death, joining in His purpose of bringing the Gospel of life to others?
