Trial Of Duane "Keefe D" Davis In Tupac Shakur's Murder Case Set To Begin February 2026.
The long-delayed trial of Duane “Keefe D” Davis, accused of masterminding the killing of rap legend Tupac Shakur nearly three decades ago, is scheduled to begin in February 2026.
Davis was arrested in Henderson two years ago and is alleged to have played a key role in the 1996 shooting that killed Shakur.
Police say the incident unfolded in Las Vegas while Shakur, members of his group The Outlawz, and music executive Suge Knight were in town for a Mike Tyson fight. Retired LVMPD Homicide Lt. Jason Johansson explained that members of Death Row Records attacked Orlando Anderson near an MGM elevator. Anderson, a member of the Compton Crips gang, is then accused of retrieving a gun from his uncle, Davis, and later firing at Shakur near Flamingo and Koval.
Former officer Chris Carroll, first on the scene, recalled asking Shakur who shot him. “He looked at me like he was going to answer, then said, ‘(expletive) you,’ and his eyes rolled back,” Carroll said. Shakur died six days later at UMC Trauma.
Davis previously admitted to involvement in 2009 under a proffer deal, which normally shields suspects from prosecution. However, investigators say he broke that agreement by publicly discussing the crime in interviews and in his memoir Compton Street Legend. Former Clark County DA David Roger said Davis essentially implicated himself: “He thought he was immune, then wrote a book detailing his role in Tupac’s murder. That’s what got him indicted.”
Davis recently switched attorneys, hiring Robert Draskovich and Michael Pandullo. “We’ll give him the best defense possible,” they said, suggesting the book attributed to Davis may not have been entirely his work. “If the book claimed he wasn’t involved, there’d be no financial incentive.”
Confident about their strategy, the defense team said they’re prepared for trial: “We’re ready to face the jury, respond to the state’s claims, and challenge their evidence.”
Despite the case’s complexity, Davis’s lawyers intend to be fully prepared by the February 2026 start date.
