Trump Says US Will Shift to Strikes on Land After Boat Attacks

President Donald Trump announced plans to expand U.S. military operations against drug traffickers from Venezuela, saying “the land is going to be next,” signaling a shift from sea to land strikes.

He instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to brief Congress on the administration’s upcoming actions but did not specify targets.

Trump emphasized that land-based operations would be more dangerous but necessary to stop drugs entering the U.S.

The move risks escalating tensions with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who has already deployed troops in response to earlier U.S. strikes at sea, Bloomberg has reported.

Despite speculation about a broader conflict, Trump said he does not plan to declare war, stating instead that the U.S. will target and kill those involved in drug trafficking.
