Myanmar’s military strikes village in glider raid, killing at least 20 people

Myanmar’s military carried out a motorized paraglider strike on Bon To village in the central Sagaing region, killing at least 20 people—including children—and wounding over 50 during a Buddhist festival and rally for political prisoners.

The attack targeted civilians gathered at the village’s primary school for an oil lamp ceremony marking the end of Buddhist Lent.

Witnesses reported that bombs were dropped twice, with the first strike causing most casualties, while the military has not acknowledged the attack.

Amnesty International condemned the strike, calling for urgent protection for civilians amid the ongoing civil war that began after the army seized power in February 2021, NBC News has reported.

The military increasingly uses low-tech paragliders for attacks, while resistance forces lack effective air defenses.
