Part 1: A rebel group led by a country priest named Dr. Syn opposes the King's naval press gangs. In order to enslave young men in the Royal British Navy, press gangs (impressment) prowl the countryside, typically at local pubs and inns, beating them until they are unconscious or submissive. Dr. Syn continues his actions from his parish base while hiding his true identity under a sackcloth mask.
Part 2: Dr. Syn, also known as The Scarecrow, has to figure out how to keep his smuggling group safe from both the King's army and a potential traitor in his own gang.
Part 3: A Royal Navy escapee and an American colonist are the two prisoners General Pugh intends to employ to trap The Scarecrow in response to pressure from King George III, not to risk losing his command.
