Russian To Extend Fuel Export Ban Amid Ukraine's Drone Attacks on Energy Infrastructure | Spotlight

Russia is set to extend its fuel export ban till the end of the year, owing to continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. According to Russian media, the country's Deputy Prime Minister made the announcement and admitted a shortage of petroleum products, adding that it was “being covered by accumulated reserves.” Gas pumps across Russia are running dry due to Ukraine's intensified strikes on energy infrastructure, aimed at cutting revenues and disrupting the fuel supply chain during the summer, the time when demand peaks. The Russian-annexed region of Crimea is reportedly the worst hit, with half of the pumps not operational anymore. The latest ban on fuel exports is an attempt to deal with these shortages. In March, Moscow barred some exports of gasoline and extended the ban to all major producers in July. Russia is among the world’s biggest producers of diesel fuel. Its exports are a key source of revenue for the government.
