UK, Poland vow to ‘confront’ Russian fighter jets

European NATO allies have vowed to shoot down any Russian aircraft violating their airspace after recent incursions.

Poland’s leaders, including Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, warned that any unauthorized aircraft would be destroyed without debate.

Estonia reported a brief incursion by three Russian MiG-31 jets, following earlier drone breaches in Poland and Romania.

NATO countries fear these violations signal Moscow testing the alliance’s defense commitments.

Estonia presented evidence of the incursion, showing the jets were armed and combat-ready, while Russia denied the claims.

At the UN, Western officials condemned the acts as dangerous and reassured allies of NATO’s commitment to defend its territory, The Guardian has reported.

Meanwhile, Putin signaled a desire to avoid escalating tensions while asserting Russia’s capability to respond to any threats.
