A man armed with a rifle at the Perkofski Boat Launch is fatally shot during standoff

De Pere, WI, At 12:57 a.m. on July 26, officers responded to reports of a man armed with a rifle at the Perkofski Boat Launch.

Law enforcement officers were wearing body cameras during the incident, according to the DOJ. Officers from the De Pere Police Department, the Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.

According to the DOJ, officers attempted negotiations with the suspect, now identified as 44-year-old Scott H. McDonald.

“Shortly after, Mr. McDonald produced a rifle, law enforcement officers from the De Pere Police Department and Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department discharged their weapons, striking Mr. McDonald,” a statement from the DOJ said.

Law enforcement officers immediately rendered aid, but McDonald was pronounced dead on the scene.
