Milpitas, California — A smash-and-grab crew of 10 to 15 suspects stormed a jewelry store on Landess Avenue but got more than they bargained for.

As the suspects tried to break in, the store owner — inside with an employee — fired a legally-owned gun, forcing the group to run. No injuries were reported, nothing was stolen, and police are actively investigating.
