Vallejo, CA - On August 29, 2025 at approximately 5:15 p.m. the Vallejo Police Department received a call of a male wearing a ski mask and a white tracksuit, on the hood of a silver SUV that was in motion in the area of 2000 Ascot Parkway,” Knight said.

While the vehicle was traveling, the caller reported that the suspect fell from the vehicle and began to walk away. There were no patrol officers available to respond to this call at that time, the deputy chief said.

At approximately 6:02 p.m., another call came in from a different person at the location reporting a subject matching the description of the previous call for service who was breaking windows in a Hyundai, Knight said. Officers were dispatched at that time.

At approximately 6:05 p.m. a person inside the apartment complex called and identified the person breaking the windows as Alexander Schumann, according to Knight.

“She indicated that Schumann made a comment that he wanted the police to shoot him,” the deputy chief said.

“While officers were en route, dispatch tentatively identified the subject as Alexander Schumann, a 24-year-old Vallejo resident who was found to have three outstanding warrants for his arrest, one felony and two misdemeanors,” Knight said.

Several officers arrived at the scene a few minutes later and set up a staging area, the deputy chief said.

The deputy chief said officers attempted to get information by contacting a witness by telephone, as well as checking whether Schumann had any firearms registered to him.

“We do not believe the officers had any information that the subject was armed with a firearm,” Knight said.

At approximately 6:25 p.m., numerous patrol officers moved to make contact “with the subject of this call,” the deputy chief said.

“As the officers pulled up to the silver Hyundai SUV within the apartment complex, Mr. Schumann was seated in the front passenger seat with the door open,” Knight said. “As officers stopped their vehicles, he quickly exited the vehicle and immediately pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at the officers in a two-handed position as he walked towards them,” the deputy chief said.

“At that point an officer-involved shooting occurred wherein two officers discharged their service weapons, striking Mr. Schumann. Between the two officers, a total of seven rounds were discharged. He sustained gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body,” Knight said.
