Migrants stuck aboard a Sea Watch rescue vessel off the coast of Malta rejoiced when they were told that they would be arriving in Europe in just a few hours on January 9. Thirty-two migrants were rescued by the Sea-Watch 3, but the vessel, along with another NGO vessel belonging to Sea-Eye, had been denied port by Italy and Malta since December 22 and December 29, respectively, according to reports. The Government of Malta announced on Wednesday that the ships would be allowed to land to drop off the migrants under the condition that they set sail immediately afterwards, and that the migrants, including those who previously landed in Malta, be distributed to other European countries.
