We spent two days exploring these catacombs — from the “civil” sections open for tours to the wild tunnels where entering without an experienced guide is strictly forbidden.

The catacombs hold a long and fascinating history. Some say they were first dug by the Cossacks. In the 19th century, they were expanded by the poorest workers who had nowhere else to go. By the 20th century, they had turned into a hub for crime, moonshine, and secret brothels.
During World War II, partisans lived down here — and terrifying things happened.
