Greece Declares National Emergency, Starts Mass Deportations
Greece has officially declared a national emergency and started 'mass deporting' migrants after 'gaining strength' from the Trump administration.
An overwhelming number of illegal migrants have been flooding into Crete, pushing authorities to arrest more than 7,000 migrants in the past week alone.
The Prime Minister said that protecting Geek borders is a top priority,
"Greece’s safety and sovereignty are non-negotiable"
In fact, multiple countries have ramped up mass deportation programs this year, prioritizing national security and economic stability over liberal open border policies that they say invite crime, and overburden their residents.
United States:
Under President Donald Trump, mass deportations have ramped up dramatically since he took office with nearly 2 million illegal migrants already deported (self & forced) by August - which is a historic high in enforcement.
Germany:
Germany has started major deportation flights since the Taliban takeover, removing Afghan men back to Afghanistan as part of tougher asylum reforms.
The government is also resuming deportations to Syria.
France:
France issued the highest number of deportation orders in 2025, deporting thousands illegal migrants too high-risk nations like Afghanistan and Syria.
Poland:
Poland backs deportations to Afghanistan and Syria, advocating for third-country processing and visa penalties for non-compliant states.
Austria:
Austria co-led calls for mass deportations and pushed for consequences like trade leverage against uncooperative countries.
Czech Republic:
the Czech Republic has initiated mass deportations advocating for a European- wide deportation plan and penalties for non-cooperation. Focus includes removals to Syria and Afghanistan.
Denmark:
Denmark joined the alliance for tougher measures, including third-country deportiations. Denmark is advocating for a deportation rate much higher than the current 30%.
Italy:
Italy has expanded deportations in 2025 deporting migrants to North Africa and the Middle East. It supports leveraging trade policies and has seen success with its strict enforcement.
Netherlands:
the Netherlands co-led the 17-country push for mass deportations, implementing deportations with ankle monitors and incentives for voluntary departures.
Sweden:
Sweden has enforced deportations of illegal migrant workers in 2025.
Finland:
Finland has started targeted deportations
Croatia:
Croatia has ramped up border deportations in 2025, joining calls for new laws that enforce deportations.
