Kevin’s early life was shaped by compassion and a call to serve as a United Church minister in Port Alberni, British Columbia, in the early 1990s. There, Indigenous survivors of Canada’s residential schools revealed a hidden genocide - abuse, forced sterilizations, and child deaths orchestrated by church and state. Kevin’s refusal to stay silent led to his 1997 defrocking, a historic first for political reasons. Undeterred, he documented survivors’ stories and produced the 2006 documentary Unrepentant, which exposed these atrocities and helped prompt Canada’s 2008 apology to Indigenous survivors.

His investigations reached global elites, including the Vatican, leading him to co-found the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State in 2010. His work with the International Common Law Court of Justice contributed to Pope Benedict XVI’s 2013 resignation, a historic event linked to allegations of church crimes. Despite facing smear campaigns, death threats, and blacklisting, Kevin has earned Nobel Peace Prize nominations for his relentless pursuit of justice.

Through his radio program Here We Stand and the Republic of Kanata, a movement for self-governance under common law, Kevin has inspired thousands to reject centralized power. His tireless advocacy, from Indigenous communities to international tribunals, amplifies the marginalized and challenges the powerful.

Now, in books he’s written like ‘Truth Teller's Shield: A Manual for Whistle Blowers & Hell Raisers: The Theory & Practice of Letting Your Truth & The Truth Prevail’ - which is a powerful manual for empowering whistleblowers and truth tellers, AND ‘Governing Ourselves: A Handbook on Personal, Political, and Spiritual Sovereignty’ which we will be discussing and referring today, Kevin distills his decades of struggle into a powerful guide for liberation. Co-authored with Indigenous elders, legal scholars, and global activists, the book is both a manifesto and a practical blueprint. It argues that true freedom begins with reclaiming personal agency, rejecting corporate and state control, and embracing spiritual awakening. Drawing on the Republic of Kanata’s experiments with common law courts and citizens’ assemblies, the book offers tools for building self-governing communities rooted in equality and mutual accountability. It is a call to action, urging readers to embody the principle that we are “beholden to none - save one another and the laws we establish.”
