Dror-1, developed over a decade by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), is the most advanced communications satellite Israel has ever produced. Weighing 4 tons, the satellite is equipped with sophisticated capabilities aimed at securing the country’s independent communication infrastructure for at least the next 15 years and assisting with national security needs.

The launch was coordinated with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, a strategic choice due to limitations in Israeli launch capabilities. Israel’s own Shavit launcher is unable to lift such a heavy payload into orbit, and launching westward over the Mediterranean is the only safe option to avoid flying over enemy territory. The use of SpaceX’s reusable Falcon 9 system made the launch both feasible and efficient.
