Magician 250 Gas Tank leak

9min video. Ya my gas tank is finally leaking, i was wondering why they had so many Mag250 gas tanks for sale and now i know. i originally thought it was my petcock again the o-ring to be more precise then i suspected it the gas low level warning light sensor, it turned out to be a cracked tack weld and ya it's not suppose to be a tack weld but it should of been a bead of welds no smaller in length than 3/8" long not a tack. anyway i will try to repair this tank and if successful i will make another video and call it a repair then explain what i did and no i'm sorry i don't make how to videos other guys do that i mostly do parts replacement videos so WE all can keep our bikes on the road. i also want to express that this is a MAGICIAN not a Tricker motorcycle and there is a difference in the gas tank design, yes you can use the Tricker gas tank but it has an electric fuel pump so expect both the tank and the pump to cost alot of money. google search engine using key words "magician 250 gas tank" also "Magician 250 Parts" and you will find a list of merchants selling them also you could try the chinese websites like alibaba and aliexpress but be warned it could be a hit or miss and you could be ripped off. here is one right of the top of the list Orion Powersports (in the US) for $89 plus $20 shipping url is https://www.orionpowersports.com/rps-magician-gas-tank/ price is only good at the time this video is made.

UPDATE: 7-2-2025 the other tack weld from the factory started to leak too. tried to repair it and let's say it leaks worse than before! but it was bad enough before that i had nothing to lose anyway. might try to save this tank by brazing it, never done that before! as for the second tank from the 2022 is weeping since it has only ONE tack weld while the 2016 tank has two tack welds from the factory. really shoddy job from the factory GRRRrrrr! i think i will try to install an after market tank of simpler design and try to find one with the brackets welded to the seam welds rather than the tank itself. wish me luck and beware and keep an eye out for leaks on your tank.

UPDATE: 7-5-2025 it turned out the first tack weld i repair was successful but like the other update i mentioned the other tack weld was weeping too. i tried to fix it but just made it worse, so i put the 2022 tank on and that had a seep too very small so i could use it to get around with while i messed with the 2016 tank. i had to grind and weld it a few times until i got it from a weep to a seep and very mild at that. i used a product called jb weld waterweld it did mention it can work on gas but no mention on ethanol which in nevada it does have about 10%, got it at walmart and this product does work the tank is now dry as can be. but i did order a product that say right on the package it works with ethanol it's call jb weld tankweld, i will try this on the 2022 tank that has a seep it in, i will also try to put two weld beads on both sides of the doubles for reinforcement of the tank hold down bracket as i do not trust epoxy to fully support the bracket with a full tank of gas. i will update on if tankweld holds up and or if waterweld gives out and begins to leak.

UPDATE: 7-16-2025 i know this is an on going saga now, but i must logged this. both tanks still leak the 2016 has just a very tiny seep that leaves the bottom of the tank moist. the 2022 i used jb weld tank weld cause it was weeping and dripping badly and this did seal it 100% but for how long? the internet says it will only last a few days to a few years! i didn't want to braze the tanks since i don't know how to do that but yet again i will have to go outside my comfort zone and do just that if the both tanks leak again, i will make a video of that and probably name it gas tank brazing. good luck to all cause the manufacturer of the Magician 250 gas tank really messed up big time and didn't weld it right. i do believe TIG welding would be superior to mig welding but brazing would be much cheaper in my view and that's what i'll do next time. take care all!

UPDATE: 7-22-2025 the 2016 tank is back to weeping! i'll have to try brazing it, but for now i'll put the 2022 tank on that has the jb weld tankweld, the 2016 was welded and it weeped pretty bad so i put jb weld waterweld and it did work until today, guess it was the ethanol in the gas. i'll update on the 2022 as it doesn't leak but it is using just the jb weld tankweld and i;m not trusting too much on it, but it is suppose to be good with ethanol fuels, we'll see.

UPDATE: 9-19-2025 been fighting this leak issue on this gas tank or tanks for more than a week. jb weld tank weld lasted almost two months, i tried brazing but a mapp gas torch isn't hot enough to get the job done. that said, i tried seal-all and got it to seal up, but again ... for how long? i will put more updates on this issue. have one tank sealed i am in the process of sealing up the second tank. i will try to use a TIG weld to melt the bronze rod for brazing but must first refill my 60cf agon tank. i am still intending to make a brazing video of that. i will more further details on my experience on sealing up gas tanks. oh i was gonna buy a new tank but it seems china is no longer making these tanks, gee i wonder why lol! ya they are prone to leak. i might also try buying a Hawk 250 tank (carbureted no EFI the tanks are different) and see if i can modify for use on a Magician of course it will no longer resemble the XG250 Tricker but to be fair the longer i own this bike i always known parts won't be available just didn't expect it this soon.
