In the 1980s, Brian was under the intense supervision of therapist Eugene Landy, a controversial figure who helped him re-engage with music but also exercised disturbing control over his life.

Meanwhile, Mike Love maintained the Beach Boys brand through constant touring, keeping the classic hits alive. But behind the scenes, the tension with Brian simmered. Legal disputes erupted in the 1990s, with Mike suing for songwriting credits and financial compensation. The lawsuits added fuel to an already strained relationship.

Despite everything, there were moments of reconciliation. In 2012, the surviving members—including Brian and Mike—reunited for a 50th-anniversary tour. Fans hoped it was a sign of healing. But once the tour ended, the group splintered again, each side returning to their separate paths.
