Therapy vs. Coaching: What’s the Real Difference in Approach?

Therapy and coaching may sound similar—but they’re built on completely different models.

Therapy comes from a medical framework. You’re given a diagnosis, and the assumption is that something within you needs repair. Therapy looks at your past—your trauma, attachment wounds, thought patterns—and works to bring healing and emotional regulation.

Coaching doesn’t diagnose. It doesn’t dig into your past.
Coaching is forward-focused, goal-driven, and assumes you’re already functioning—you just need clarity, direction, and strategy.

Therapy is about healing what was.
Coaching is about building what could be.

In my 6 month marriage intensive, Marriage in Bloom, I integrate both.
For those who need more than just a pep talk—but also want practical tools to grow forward in faith, love, and purpose.
