The 70th Match of Men’s Tata IPL-2025 was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium Lucknow on 27th May, 2025. In this match Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets. In this match Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Lucknow Super Giants while batting first scored 227 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs and gave target of 228 runs to Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win. In reply Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 230 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 18.4 overs and won the match by 6 wickets.
While batting first Lucknow Super Giants started very well and their new opening pair of Matthew Breetzke and Mitchell Marsh added 25 runs in 2.4 overs. Matthew Breetzke could not last for long and was first to go out. He was bold by Nuwan Thushara after scoring 14 runs from 12 balls hitting 1 four and 1 six.
Then Mitchell Marsh with Rishabh Pant played brilliantly and added 152 runs from 78 balls only for the second wicket. Rishabh Pant finally played the innings of his caliber and was major contributor in this partnership.
Mitchell Marsh as usual played with authority and was second wicket to fall. He played a gem of innings of 67 runs from 37 balls hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes. He was caught by Jitesh Sharma of the of the bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Rishabh Pant continued his onslaught and added 49 runs from 26 balls with Nicholas Pooran for the third wicket. Nicholas Pooran played a gem of innings of 13 runs from 10 balls hitting 1 four. Pooran was out in the last over of the innings while trying to increase the score. He was caught by Yash Dayal of the bowling of Romario Shepherd.
Rishabh Pant came back in form and played a gem of innings and scored his well deserved century. He top scored with not out 118 runs from 61 balls hitting 11 fours and 8 sixes. Abdul Samad faced only one ball and remined not out on 1 run.
RCB bowling was very ordinary and one wicket each was taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Nuwan Thushara and Romario Shepherd
Luckhnow Super Giants batted well and managed to score 227 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs and gave target of 228 runs to RCB to win.
In reply Royal Challengers Bengaluru started very well with both openers Philip Salt and Virat Kohli going on with great guns and added quickfire 61 runs in 5.4 overs only.
Philip Salt after scoring superb 30 runs from 19 balls hitting 6 fours was first to go out caught by Digvesh Rathi of the bowling of Akash Maharaj Singh.
Then Virat Kohli with Rajat Patidar added 29 runs from 13 balls for the second wicket and further consolidated the innings.
Rajat Patidar was second wicket to fall caught by Abdul Samad of the bowling of William ORourke after scoring 14 runs from 7 balls hitting 1 four and 1 six. He was caught on the 5th ball of the over and on the last ball of the same over William ORourke sent back Liam Livingstone back to pavilion with out scoring. He was LBW to William ORourke.
Then Virat Kohli continued his good batting and with Mayank Agarawal added 33 runs from 20 balls for the fourth wicket but Virat Kohli got out after contributing quickfire 54 runs from 30 balls hitting 10 fours.
Then Captain Jitesh Sharma with Mayank Agarawal played unbelievable innings and won the match for the RCB. They added unbeaten match winning 107 runs from 45 balls.
Captain Jitesh Sharma played the innings of his life and contributed 85 runs from 33 balls hitting 8 fours and 6 towering sixes. Mayank Agarawal equally contributed valuable 41 runs from 23 balls hitting 5 fours. Both remained not out and won the match for RCB.
William ORourke was expensive gave 74 runs but took 2 wickets. One wicket each was taken by Akash Maharaj Singh and Avesh Khan.
RCB played magnificently and scored 230 runs for 4 wickets in 18.4 overs and won the match by 6 wickets. Jitesh Sharma was given the Player of the Match Award.
With this win RCB have reached to the 2nd position of Points Table with 19 points and have qualified for the Qualifier 1st Match of IPL-2025.They will now play with table toppers Punjab in Qualifier 1st Match.
Gujarat with 18 points is at number three and Mumbai with 16 points is at number four. They both will now play the Eliminator Match.
