Bangladesh On The Boil: Govt Employees Continue Protest; Yunus Deploys SWAT at Secretariat
Tensions continue to simmer in Bangladesh as the Yunus government faces multiple protests. The protest by government employees across Bangladesh continued for its fourth consecutive day. Government employees in Bangladesh are protesting against the Public Service Amendment Ordinance 2025, which allows the government to fire employees through a show-cause notice and without any formal proceedings. Some protesters blame pro-Sheikh Hasina secretaries for pushing the ordinance and refusing to cooperate with the Yunus government. Primary school teachers, who have been demanding higher wages, also joined protests by government workers. Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus is grappling with intense political turmoil and protests. Khaleda Zia's BNP has asked the government to lay down a clear roadmap to national elections. There have also been reports of discord between the Yunus government and the Bangladesh Army.
