Plane Slides into End of Runway Arrestor System at Hollywood Burbank Airport

Southwest Airlines Flight 278 slid to the end of the runway during landing in heavy rain at Hollywood Burbank Airport (Bob Hope Airport) on December 6 and was evacuated. The FAA stated that the plane “rolled off the end of Runway 8 while landing at [Hollywood Burbank Airport] in Burbank, CA, and came to rest in the Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS).” No injuries or fatalities were reported at he time of writing. One Instagram user posted a photo from the tarmac and said: “We are alive.
