On May 6, 1937, the German airship Hindenburg burst into flames while attempting to land in Lakehurst, New Jersey. Caught on film and captured live by radio reporter Herb Morrison, this tragedy ended the era of passenger airships.

Morrison’s unforgettable words—“Oh, the humanity!”—were broadcast across the nation, making this one of the most iconic disasters ever recorded.
