Sachal Sarmast, also known as Sacho Sarmast, was a renowned Sindhi Sufi poet, mystic, and philosopher whose life and teachings left a lasting impact on the spiritual and literary heritage of Sindh. He was born around 1739 in the village of Daraza, near Ranipur, in present-day Khairpur District, Sindh, Pakistan. His real name was Abdul Wahab Faruqi, but he is fondly remembered by the name "Sachal," meaning "truthful," for his devotion to truth and divine love. Sachal Sarmast passed away in 1827, and following his death, his legacy continued to grow through his poetry, which he composed in multiple languages including Sindhi, Persian, Urdu, Arabic, and Punjabi. The shrine was constructed by Mir Rustam Khan Talpur, the then ruler of Khairpur, who was deeply influenced by Sachal Sarmast’s teachings.
